Overview
This course will focus on the relationship between a drug’s mechanism of action at the molecular level and its effect on the patient. Course material will balance both basic and clinical aspects of drug action. Prior knowledge of medical terminology is highly recommended.
Course Objectives
After Completion, Students will be able to perform the following:
- Explain the general principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and common medication classification.
- Explain drug actions, adverse effects, correct drug dosages, and IV rate calculation.
- Use abbreviations for the safe administration of topical and oral medications.
- Health and create health learning plans and protocols for individuals who take prescribed drugs, and over the counter preparations.
- Evaluate practices and procedures for safe storage and handling of medications.
Prerequisites
- Applicants must have completed a Diploma/Degree in nursing and should be registered with the Nursing Council of their country of education.
- Copy of CNO Letter of Assessment
- Resume/CV outlining previous nursing education and practice;
- Eligibility to study in Canada (i.e. Canadian citizenship, permanent residents, study permit).
